Some people might question that why one should be a Muslim and follow Islam and why shouldn’t we follow other religions or other ways of life. So I thought of writing an article on this topic. Some body may ask how can you prove Islam is the True religion. Read the following for that.

- Meaning of the words “Islam” and Muslim”
Islam comes from the Arabic word “aslama” or “Silm” which means to “Submit, surrender, obey” Almighty God with sincerity and be in Peace with him. In short, Islam means to submit your will to God, You do whatever God wants you to do.
Anyone who does “Islam” i.e. submits to the will of Almighty God is called a Muslim.

Following are the few of the many benefits of becoming a Muslim and following Islam
(i) Forgiveness of your sins
The Moment any person becomes a Muslim, all his/her past sins are forgiven regardless of the age of the person and regardless of the sins he/she has committed before. The Holy Quran says
“Say to the Unbelievers, if (now) they desist (from Unbelief), their past would be forgiven them” (Quran
“Say: "If ye do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love you and forgive you your sins: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Quran 3:31)
Allah is Oft-forgiving and he is Most Merciful to his creatures and he forgives all those who turn towards him. The Quran says
(ii) Recognition and worship of Almighty God:
You recognize and worship the one and Only True God, the Creator of this universe, The All-knowing, The All wise.
“22. Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- Who knows (all things) both secret and open; He, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
23. Allah is He, than Whom there is no other god;- the Sovereign, the Holy One, the Source of Peace (and Perfection), the Guardian of Faith, the Preserver of Safety, the Exalted in Might, the Irresistible, the Supreme: Glory to Allah. (High is He) above the partners they attribute to Him.
24. He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Forms (or Colours). To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names: whatever is in the heavens and on earth, doth declare His Praises and Glory: and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. “ (Quran 59:22-24)
This Concept of Oneness of God and his obedience is there in our in-aid nature. Even the atheists when they are in times of extreme difficulty like life and death situation, they cry out to God even though they claim that they don’t believe in God. Read this article of mine.
Reasoning the existence of One True Almighty God without any partners
(iii) Acceptance of the Final messenger of God mentioned in your scriptures
Becoming a Muslim is also the acceptance of the Last and Final messenger of God Almighty i.e. Muhammad (pbuh) who is mentioned in your scriptures and who is the Mercy to the whole of human kind. The Quran says
“When you rejected this Qur’an, did you ever pause to ponder? What if it really is from Allah? A (learned) witness amongst the Israelites declared his belief in it, while you displayed arrogance! Indeed, Allah does not guide the nation of evildoers.” (Quran 46:10)
The Quran says
“We sent thee not, but as a Mercy for all creatures.” (Quran 21:107)

(iv) Getting a set of upright principles to abide by:
You get a wonderful set of principals to abide by. The laws of Islam are the most upright and perfect. They ought to be so since they are from Allah, All-Knowing Creator of this universe. “it is possible that ye dislike a thing which is good for you, and that ye love a thing which is bad for you. But Allah knoweth, and ye know not.” (Quran 2:216)
(v) Salvation from Almighty God and
The best advantage and the biggest achievement of being a Muslim is to achieve God’s good pleasure and his salvation. Islam i.e. Submission to the will of God is the only religion that God is going to accept from his creatures. The Quran says
“If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah., never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good).” (Quran 3:85)
As for those who knowing reject Allah and his religion, Allah has prepared from them the fire of hell. The Quran says
“For those who reject their Lord (and Cherisher) is the Penalty of Hell: and evil is (such), Destination.” (Quran 67:6)
The Holy Qur’an promises paradise and salvation to those who believe and do righteous deeds.
“For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfilment of all desires),” (Quran 85:11)
“Allah has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds forgiveness, and a great Reward.” (Quran 48:29)
4. Conclusion:
These are only few of the many benefits that you derive by being a Muslim. May Allah guide us all to the Truth. The Quran says
“The Religion before Allah is Islam (submission to His Will):” (Quran
“Say: "O ye men! Now Truth hath reached you from your Lord! those who receive guidance, do so for the good of their own souls; those who stray, do so to their own loss: and I am not (set) over you to arrange your affairs." (Quran 10:108)
